Baby’s First Dental Visit in Northern Virginia

We ask that you fill out a few patient forms and bring them with you to your child’s first appointment. It’s important to prepare your child with information about their dentist appointment so they know what to expect. it’s important to explain the procedures in a gentle manner without using intimidating words such as “needle,” “drill,” “pain,” or similar words. This approach helps to create a positive and comfortable experience for your child.

When you come in with your child, you’ll be welcomed by our front desk associate, where you will check in and give your patient forms to get started with us. Our waiting room includes games for your child to play with to provide your child engaging entertainment while at our office. We use distraction techniques to keep your child focused on the positives of our office, and not the anxieties of a dentist appointment.

When being called, you are welcome to accompany your baby or child child to the treatment room. We encourage you to ask any questions you may have to help alleviate any concerns. Our pediatric dentist will also take the time to get to know your child, their personality, development, and their needs to provide individualized dental care.

The dentist will perform a comprehensive examination of your child’s teeth and gums during the visit, depending on their age, to identify any potential problem areas. If it’s your child’s first visit to a pediatric dentist , you’ll receive guidance on infant dental care. Your dentist will also determine if an X-ray (Panoramic or bitewings), is necessary to obtain a more detailed view of your child’s oral health.

Your pediatric dentist will conduct a cleaning to clear out any plaque and protect teeth from decay and gum disease.

Now that your child has heroically made it through their first dentist appointment with us, they receive a token to pick out a prize from one of our toy towers! If we find that they don’t have any cavities, they get a special opportunity to spin our Cavity-Free Club wheel to win an extra toy. Our goal is to give your child of any age a fun, safe, and positive experience with us so they look forward to coming to the dentist.
