Comfort Options for Your Child
We can work with any circumstances and any child, including children with special needs, to improve your child’s experience. We always provide a reassuring disposition, toys for your child to fidget with, and gentle dental care, but for more comfort, we offer the following options:
Laughing Gas
Laughing gas, or nitrous oxide, is a sedative applied through a mask that keeps your child awake but calms them during the treatment. Once the laughing gas is no longer being administered, the effects wear off almost instantly with little side effects.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation is usually administered via a pill and produces a relaxing effect while remaining conscious. It makes them feel drowsy, and its effect lasts for several hours after consumption.
IV Sedation
IV sedation is another form of conscious sedation administered via an IV drip. It is stronger than laughing gas or oral sedation, and it typically puts your child in a “semi-awake” state.
General Anesthesia
General anesthesia is a more intensive form of sedation that results in complete unconsciousness. Your child will be comfortably asleep while our team provides expert dental care. Your anesthesiologist will go over pre- and post-care instructions with you before your child’s appointment.
